Reception’s First P.E. Lesson: Fun and Fitness in Action!

Reception had a fantastic start to the school year with their very first P.E. lesson! The children were eager, excited, and full of energy as they took their first steps into the world of physical education. Here’s a little snapshot of what we got up to during this exciting introduction to P.E.

Getting Ready for P.E.

Before we even stepped onto the gym floor, the children were introduced to the importance of warming up. They learned about stretching and moving their bodies to get ready for exercise. We talked about how warming up helps our muscles stay strong and healthy. The children loved stretching like tall trees, reaching up to the sky, and bending down low to touch their toes. They even giggled as they pretended to be different animals during our warm-up, stretching like cats and bending like frogs!

Exploring Movement

In the main part of the lesson, we focused on exploring different ways of moving. The children practiced walking, running, hopping, and jumping. Each child had the chance to show how they could move in different directions and with different speeds. Some enjoyed hopping like kangaroos, while others ran fast like cheetahs. There was lots of laughter as the children challenged themselves to move in new ways and see how their bodies could twist, turn, and bend.

Cooling Down

After all that activity, it was time to cool down. The children practiced gentle stretching and deep breathing, which helped them relax and reflect on the lesson. We talked about how cooling down helps our bodies feel better after exercise. The children enjoyed lying on the floor like “sleeping bunnies” and taking slow breaths as they relaxed at the end of the session.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be exploring new activities, working on balance, coordination and team skills.
