Geography

The geography curriculum at James Brindley inspires curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. It strives to nurture our children’s curiosity and to provide children with skills and knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. High quality teaching ensures that children progress through the school, developing their knowledge about the world thus extending their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. Teachers will equip children with an increasing understanding of the world around them and deepen their Geographical knowledge and skills to explain how the Earth’s features are shaped, interconnected and change over time.

It is important that children develop the skills of a geographer by fully immersing them in all areas of the subject. The local area is fully utilised to achieve desired outcomes, with opportunities for learning outside the classroom. School trips and fieldwork are provided to give first-hand experiences, which enhance children's understanding of the world beyond their locality
