SEND
At James Brindley, it is our priority to provide opportunities for every child to succeed and strive towards excellence in everything they do. In any classroom, children learn at different speeds and in different ways. Any child may have additional educational needs at some point during his/her time in school. Teachers will modify the curriculum and provide personalised resources to help every child reach their potential. If, however, a pupil requires support that is 'additional to' or 'different from' the quality first teaching that takes place in the classroom, provision will be made for them to have 1:1 or small group support to help close gaps in their learning
A child or young person has special educational needs if they have a learning difficulty or disability which makes it much harder for them to learn compared to other pupils of the same age.
There are four key areas of SEND:
Cognition and Learning - This includes children with Specific Learning Difficulties, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties.
Communication and Interaction - This area of needs includes children with Autism Spectrum Condition and those with Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
Social, Emotional and Mental Health - This includes any pupils who have an emotional, social or mental health needs that is impacting on their ability to learn.
Sensory and/or Physical Difficulties - This area includes children with hearing impairment, visual impairment, multi-sensory impairment and physical difficulties.
