Over the last few weeks, Nursery have been learning about colour. We started by reading, 'The Colour Monster goes to school' by Anna Llenas. Some of the children remembered what feelings the colours represented (from previously reading, The Colour Monster).
"Yellow is happy!"
"Red is angry."
We then used torches, colour paddles, different materials, prisms and jewels to investigate colour further and the children made some great observations,
"It's turned indigo!"
"The light shines through the jewel."
"You can't see the light shine sometimes."
In our next investigate, using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and hidden food colouring, Nursery had to predict what would happen,
"It might change colour"
"It might go sticky."
Some of the predictions were correct as we saw the bicarb start to fizz when the vinegar was added. The children identified the colours coming through and we began to stir the mixture to make new colours.
"It's turning orange!"
In our final week of the topic, we used paint to mix colours together and went on a colour hunt around the classroom.
