Chinese New Year
Date: 29th Jan 2025 @ 1:30pm
Our nursery children have had a wonderful time celebrating Chinese New Year with a range of exciting activities from storytelling, and creativity to music and movement.
The celebrations began with a special storytelling session. Makayla from Year 6 joined us to read a beautiful story about the traditions and meaning of Chinese New Year. The nursery children were captivated by the tale, listening intently as they learned about the significance of the holiday, the zodiac animals, and the customs that make the festival so special. Makayla did a fantastic job bringing the story to life, and it was heartwarming to see the younger ones so engaged.
Next, the children got creative by making their very own Chinese lanterns. Using bright red, they carefully cut, folded, and decorated their lanterns with gold glitter. The nursery was soon filled with a dazzling display of handmade lanterns, each one unique and crafted with great enthusiasm. This activity helped the children develop their fine motor skills while also giving them an opportunity to express themselves artistically.
The highlight of the celebration was undoubtedly the dragon dance! The children took turns holding up the dragon's head and followed each other in a lively parade around the hall. The other children watching, shook shakers, rang bells and beat drums to mimick the traditional dragon dance seen in Chinese New Year celebrations.
Finally, most of our children enjoyed a special Chinese themed lunch choosing either, sweet and sour chicken or hoisin noodles.
Celebrating Chinese New Year has provided them with a wonderful opportunity to learn about different cultures and traditions while having lots of fun!
Happy Chinese New Year from all of us in Nursery!
